Demaree Method of Swarm Control

During an apiary demo in March, one of our experienced beekeepers explained the above method of swarm control.  He used blocks of wood to symbolise the hive and blocks are used below to explain the process.

  1. Below is a hive with a single brood box, queen and two supers.

  1. Prepare a second brood box, using drawn comb and leave a gap in the middle, approx 2 frames.
  2. Remove original brood box and place to one side, add a new brood box in its place.
