Visited Austria and found that there were a lot of honeybees living 2000m+ above
sea level. There was an abundance of flowers and I managed to catch a few pictures
of the honeybees.
Learnt that down in the lovely Tyrolean village of Mayrhofen, there was a huge number
of bees busy around gathering pollen and nectar from the flowers. We found a source
on day when coming back from a walk. By the river, there was an apiary with Commercial
bee hives. See picture opposite.
Attended the Castle Fraser bee festival which was aimed at raising awareness about
bees and providing fun for youngsters, e.g. games, bee hunt, face painting. Now
that some bee group members have hives in the new Castle Fraser apiary, Paula Swann
(organiser) has been working hard to promote the apiary and bees in general. Well
done, and thanks Paula, anyone who promotes bees is a friend of ours. A couple of
our members were able to sell some Castle Fraser honey and wax products. “M” had
managed to add some bees, and a Queen, to the observation hive and brought that along
too. Unfortunately, my pictures of observation hive did not turn out great, but click
